Classified Ads - Dirt Cheap Advertising For Your Business Opportunity

By Benjamin Fitts

Dirt Cheap Classified Ads can be a great way to promote your business. We've all seen the late night infomercials that say "If you make $25 selling a product from a $20 classified ad you can be a millionaire!" Simply keep taking out more ads and selling more products.

How do you do that?

Your first step is to find a source for dirt cheap classified ads.

Your second step is to learn to write effective marketing messages for your ads.

Your third step and most important is to track the results of your advertising. It doesn't matter if the ad costs you $100 if you make a profit from it! It also doesn't matter if it only costs $12 if the ad doesn't get you any results!

Where to Find Dirt Cheap Classified Ads? Dirt cheap classified ads exist everywhere! My first source of cheap ads was in the free promotional newspapers & magazines that I found at the grocery store when I was putting up flyers. These are the free magazines and newspapers that tell you what kinds of activities are happening in your area. You may also find some of the classified papers and help wanted papers.

These free magazines and newspapers are usually kept at the front of the grocery store either near the entrance or exit to the store. Often times this would be adjacent to the area where they accept flyer advertisements. If you live in a large city there may also be newspaper stands at your local street corner. In Boston where I currently live there are at least 9 different free papers/magazine stands on downtown street corners. A couple of the newsstands will be daily "pay" newspapers. The others will be free papers, classifieds, employment guides, real estate guides, weekend guides, etc. I occasionally walk around and pick up as many samples as possible for my collection. I email or call the paper and ask them to fax me over their classified advertising rates.

I've also found some great deals on newspaper circulars that are distributed by postal mail. When I lived in New Jersey there were two or three of these circulars that were sent to my home for free every month. I found advertising in some of these as cheap as $12 a week. In my tests they performed just as good as a $60 ad in the local daily paper!

Once you build up a collection of newspaper circulars you'll find companies that are conglomerates and syndicate papers in different regions. There are penny papers like "The Pennysaver" and there are free "Metro" newspapers. You can start your research with NationwideNewspapers.com a web site that lists newspapers all over the country. You can purchase classified ads for less than $50 anywhere in the USA.

Develop Effective Marketing Messages that Capture Reader's Attention

With classified ads you are paying by the word or by the line. When you are starting out you should start by keeping your messages short and simple.

For my first classified ad I took a message that I had already tested on flyers and put it in a few newspapers. I tracked the results to see which ads performed well.

My first ad was:

Help My home business is booming. I need a few select people to help part-time from home. Will train. Contact 877-236-3488 or www.benfitts.com

While this ad did attract calls it was not the most effective ad. About half the people calling the ad were looking for a JOB. The good thing was that the other half of the people was pretty decent candidates. I had several strong leads develop from this ad.

I also learned from a friend a REALLY simple way to advertise. My friend took out classified ads that ONLY contained a web address. My friend buys descriptive domain names and only includes that information in the ad.

So for example, I setup this domain just for an example of a descriptive opportunity domain that is meant to pique the reader's interest:

http://www.SecretHomeBusiness.com

I've got domain names for products as well as for the opportunity. My domains only cost me $9.95 per year so I can register a bunch of them and test them out. You should probably test them first by doing a survey. Take a bunch of possible names and put them on a sheet of paper or 3x5 cards. Then ask friends/family to select which one they like best. You can even take these to a public place like the mall and get some unbiased opinions! You may even find a new customer or distributor in the process!

The best way to learn to develop classified marketing messages is to... READ the classified ads! If you pickup the papers regularly you'll start to recognize some of the ads. It is pretty safe to assume that if someone spends enough money to put an ad in the paper every day for a year that the ad is getting results. I even know a few people that take out multiple ads in each paper per day!

Get the Most Bang for Your Buck by Tracking Your Results It is really difficult to succeed in your advertising if you don't track your results! You should be able to track which messages you use, and which newspapers you advertise in. It is a wonderful thing when you realize that a dirt cheap ad that costs less than $20 does better than an ad that costs $100!

I've already mentioned that I track ads by using Affordable Domain Names. I use a different web site address for each advertisement. I always use .com domains in my classified ads. If I take out an advertisement in the newspaper they have to type it in and I run a risk of them doing it wrong and going to the .com instead. I don't want to risk them going to someone else's web site!

I also track my ads using cost effective toll free numbers. I use a really awesome toll free system that starts at only $2 per month. I pay only 6.9 ¢ per minute. I can direct it to voice mail, route it to my telephone, route it to a different number based on time of day or geographic location.

By using a new toll-free number and domain name for each ad campaign I can track which ads are most successful and which advertising locations yield the best results. I keep an Excel Spreadsheet which tracks which ads are having the most luck. If you don't want to get as sophisticated you can get a simple spiral notebook or journal and keep track of your results in there. It doesn't matter how you do it, the important thing is to track your results!

Conclusion Dirt cheap classified ads can be a very effective way to promote your business opportunity or your product. The key is to test your ads and track your results so you can find which ads work well and which are failures. Another trick is to not spend too much money at once so if your advertisement is a failure you haven't wiped out your budget. Using special domain names or toll-free numbers can allow you to track the results of the same advertisement in different newspapers. With a small budget and a little patience, you can be achieving success in no time.

Practice Growth Strategies for Chiropractors

By Chris Barr

Practice growth is a difficult and often frustrating process. No matter how talented, experienced, or proficient you are as a chiropractor, marketing your business may be draining your energy, funds, and desire to achieve the original plans you had for your practice.

Advertising is not fail-proof, and usually the thought of advertising expenses is enough to make business owners feel light-headed. Captivating your targeted market is not easy in today's world. How will you advertise - in the Yellow Pages, on the internet, through media? These are difficult and important decisions that a clinic director must make.

It is easy for a person to forget what they heard on the radio, watched on television, or flipped through in a magazine, because while they are being bombarded with information they are actively thinking about other things or focused on multiple activities at once. That is not to say that these forms of advertising do not work, obviously they work quite well, but repetition is usually the key. Additionally, these types of advertisements can become extremely expensive in a hurry. Quite frankly, for the small business, advertising on such a large-scale is not a viable solution.

Print advertising is the safest, most-effective, and easily traceable form of marketing. Just open a Sunday newspaper and you will see every major retailer in your area along with numerous successful small area businesses who all leverage the power of print marketing. These businesses know how to monitor their ROI as well, they never throw away advertising money. By including an item such as a coupon or special offer unique to only one particular advertisement, business owners can track which customers are responding to their print ads. There are many creative ways to monitor success, just use a little creativity and imagination while designing.

But why is print the best advertising medium?

It's simple really. Print ads are delivered directly into the hands of your customers. Your print advertisements will reach thousands of people who are looking for solutions to their real life problems. The ideal prospect is a person who struggles with back pain on a daily basis, aches throughout the work day, and barely finds the ability to sleep each night. Once they have your advertisement in hand, their own pain will remind them to call you, and they will. It is critical that you take the first step in the process. You must reach out your helping hand before a prospective customer will reach out for the help. Give your customers a reason to call.

What other benefits do print ads offer your practice? Print advertisements, such as newspaper inserts, allow prospects to interact with your practice before they ever make a phone call. Print ads also lend credibility to your business and help further your branding and local identity. More importantly, print advertisements are the most powerful and effective way to deliver testimonials which instantly generate reactions that result in new appointments.

If you can still remember why you started your own practice then it isn't too late.

The Entrepreneur's Roadmap To Easy Street And Business Success

By Tino Buntic

The directions to Easy Street are quite complicated. You cannot always get there and not all roads lead to Easy Street. But, take heart in knowing that there are at least a few successful entrepreneurs living right in your very own town that have found Easy Street and know exactly how to get there. Some will be kind enough to give you directions and some won't.

Business success often leads to Easy Street. But how do you get there? Rand McNally has never published a roadmap to get there. The best way to get there is to get directions from successful entrepreneurs that have already been there, entrepreneurs like:

  • Richard Branson: Richard Branson, of Virgin, believes that rules were made to be broken. He thinks that you should not follow conventional wisdom in business.
  • Michael Dell: Michael Dell believes entrepreneurs should be willing to experiment and also willing to fail. Too many people are too afraid of failure. Also, Dell suggests to look for ideas and to look for breakthroughs.
  • Wayne Huizenga: Wayne Huizenga, founder of three Fortune 500 companies, believes that execution is more important than the idea. There are so many good business ideas but you have to be able to execute to succeed.
  • John Johnson: John Johnson, founder of Ebony Magazine, would get angry whenever he encounters a barrier. He says that he would cry and curse. But then he gets a ladder and climbs over it.
  • Ray Kroc: Ray Kroc, of McDonalds, believes that you should take your business more seriously than anybody else.
  • Howard Schultz: Howard Schultz, of Starbuck's, has one word to describe what separates winners from the pack - persistence.
  • Sam Walton: Sam Walton, of Wal-Mart, believes in sharing your profits with all of your associates and also treating them as partners.
  • Andrew Carnegie: Andrew Carnegie, of Carnegie Steel Company, emphasizes the importance of self-improvement, knowing your talents, and being kind.
There's no better way to learn to be a successful entrepreneur than to learn from successful entrepreneurs, themselves. The above entrepreneurs give hints as to the location of Easy Street. Now, if they would only give us the zip code, we’d be able to look it up on Mapquest.

Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners: Are You Worth At Least $100 an Hour?

By Leanne Hoagland-Smith

Many small business owners are former executives or technicians who earned considerable money through employment. Their former salaries ranged from $50,000 to $250,000 plus not including benefits. Yet, when starting a small business, suddenly their own value appears to dramatically diminished.

Due to a belief that cash flow is limited when first beginning, these entrepreneurs wear many hats such as: accounting, administrative, human resources, marketing, sales, visionary and general “go-fer.” These hats continue to be worn as the business grows because of the entrepreneurial belief that “No one knows my business better than me” or that “I can do it better and usually cheaper than anyone else.”

Both of these beliefs contribute to a third, mostly subconscious belief, that my time has no value. This is probably the most detrimental belief that any business owner can embrace. Why? Please let me explain.

A Typical Scenario--The small business owner decides to file his own taxes because he can save $500 to $2,000 by not hiring an accountant. Since he has 6 employees including himself, he also takes care of all personnel issues. With an emphasis on sales, he believes that he can save another $5,000 a year by designing and developing all his marketing pieces. His website is professionally designed, but he has the ability to make daily updates. He does allocate $5,000 for memberships in several organizations including a chamber of commerce, a professional association and a formal networking group. This entrepreneur makes many, if not all, of the runs to the bank and post office. And to wear all these hats, he works very long hours. At the end of the year, he looks at his bottom line and possibly he made his previous salary and then some. Now, he feels anywhere from frustrated to really great.

So what’s wrong with this picture? Simply speaking, this small business owner is working harder not smarter. If he focused on his strengths that being developing a customer base, working sales leads and building productivity or profits, would he not have the money to pay for many of those other hats that he has been wearing?

The real answer to this bad pictue is the owner's belief that his daily actions have no measurable value. By applying a $100 an hour rate to every activity, he can then do the math and see an entirely different picture of return on investment for his time. That $100 an hour is what his expertise, intellectual capitol or sweat equity is worth and in all honesty it is probably closer to $200 per hour. Until this small business owner believes that he is worth at least $100 per hour, he will probably continue to work in his business instead of working on his business. The end result is that he is losing tens of thousands of dollars while trying to save a few thousand dollars.

Business Entrepreneurs Take Control of Your Business

By Nazir Daud

Don't let your business control you. To be successful, you must drive the business forward. Stop working so hard and start thinking! What do I mean by this? Read the following example:

I visited a business recently and I was shocked to find the manager of the business driving a forklift truck, yet again! Don't get me wrong, there is no rule in business that says that you should not help in the factory floor now and again but, in his case, he seems to spend all his time doing manual work instead of managing his business.

If he spent his valuable time negotiating prices, running his business more efficiently and managing his staff, the return on investment of time would be far greater in terms of profitability.

A lot of business owners seem to think that to run a business successfully, they have to work long hours but fail to understand that by working smarter, they could actually end up growing the business faster with less hours worked.

The basic rules in being an entrepreneur are:

Delegate, delegate and delegate absolutely everything that needs to be performed in the same way on a routine basis. This will free your most important resource, your mind, to look at the big picture.

Get rid of the chaff instantly! You immediately know if someone is not right for the job. So why is that person still working for you? Even 1 extra day spent on training the wrong person is 1 too many. Hire the best people and train them to be even better!

Have a plan and keep evaluating your plan. Set deadlines, goals, to do list etc. By constantly evaluating your plan, you will find out very quickly what works and what doesn't.

Build great systems to take the routine work and make it even easier. Keep records of everything you do so that you can train others very quickly. If you ever get asked a question about your business, keep a permanent record of your reply. This will save a lot of time as most business owners get asked the same questions on a regular basis.

Start networking with other business entrepreneurs in your line of work and outside. By constantly meeting other like minded people, you will be able to keep your company 1 step ahead and learn new ideas and innovations for your business.

Attend all exhibitions that relate to your products. This will keep your product knowledge high and you will become an expert in your field.

Learn new skills constantly. Read business books, buy courses and attend seminars. I particularly like audio tapes, as you can listen whilst doing other things, like driving a car. This will develop your entrepreneurial skills.

Bear in mind, that I am not saying that you should work more hours. If anything, I believe that you can work less hours then you currently do, and still make your business more successful.

How Entrepreneurs Succeed - The 5 Qualities Needed For Business Success

By Rhiannon Williamson

What is it that sets a successful businessperson apart from an average businessperson? Is it down to pure and simple luck, or is it all about having an amazing idea and a successful and strategic business plan in place?

Well, these factors do indeed go a long way to turning a good business idea into a successful business operation, but they have nothing to do with what makes the ‘person’ succeed at business.

Every great entrepreneur naturally has 5 key attributes that sets them aside from their competition and that ensure they will succeed where others may fail. These 5 personal qualities will all reflect upon the entrepreneur’s business and they will mean the entrepreneur grows and develops every area of their own personal expertise to become not only the strategic thinker behind the business, but the strategic manager poised to lead the company forward to achieve even greater success.

The 5 qualities that every entrepreneur shares and that are the keys to their business success are: -

1) Desire – To succeed you have to have a massive desire to break out of the average 9 – 5 grind, to step off the employee-job-salary treadmill and to put your ideas, ideals and beliefs into action. An entrepreneur’s desire for personal fulfilment and professional success is his number one key strength and that which will force him to start out in business in the first place. This desire to achieve will become a desire for success and this desire for success will be reflected throughout the business.

2) Positivity – Entrepreneurs have a positive mental attitude towards their life, their business and themselves; they are not restricted by disappointments and regrets and they look forward not backwards. A naturally positive person sees opportunities where others see obstacles, a naturally positive person frees their mind from negativity and disappointment so that it is free to dream, imagine, develop and expand.

3) Commitment – To succeed you have to be committed to putting in the hard work necessary to build a business from the ground up. You have to commit to your beliefs and desires, you have to commit to your business idea and you have to commit to the employees within your company. With commitment comes effort, with effort comes results, with results comes success!

4) Patience – Patience and commitment go hand in hand, and the patient entrepreneurs who dedicate themselves to working away at their business day after day will reap the rewards of their patience when the steady and focused hard work pays off in the form of positive and successful results.

5) Persistence – Nothing is ever straightforward or without contradiction or change and the future is unknown. These factors mean that the final key entrepreneurial attribute is simply critical to success. When obstacles appear, when goal posts are moved and when ‘these things are sent to try us’ you have to persist with your ideas, persist with your hard work and keep focused on success. With patient and committed persistence the desired results will come.

Start Your Own Photography Business from Home

By Roy Barker

Anyone with the right camera equipment, and the necessary skills can set up a home business, marketing photography. You need only to convert a room of your house into an office, and then you can work immediately.

With modern technology in the form of SLR digital cameras, you do not even need the room for a dark room. You need only to have a personal computer and a photo-editing program. The standard is Adobe Photoshop.

It is not necessary to clutter yourself with equipment you do not need. You can hire equipment on and when you need it basis. You have the freedom to work part time for a while until you can devote yourself full time to photography. All you need to be is a serious photographer. There are two types of photographers that makes their living from photography, the serious photographer and the very serious photographer. You can always bookmark this link and then you can quickly access just about all you'll ever need from here.

Whilst the technical skills needed to make a successful photographer have never been easier, other aspects have changed the business. The market for photographs of virtually every type has widened, the world seems to have an insatiable appetite for photographs. However the price has fallen as the marketing net has broadened. Photographers are needed in many more fields. For instance many people use car web sites, they simply did not exist ten years ago, and they sell their products as a result of photography. Cameras used by scuba diver’s are now an excellent quality, and whilst they are initially expensive, they have forged a new market. People celebrate special occasions more with photography, than they did years ago. The travel and advertising markets have a greater need for landscape, travel and nature shots.

It is now easier than ever to turn your dream into reality and create a worthwhile business out of an engrossing hobby. However in today’s modern world there is more to it than simply pointing a camera, and shooting a picture. You need to be aware of marketing techniques, and here marketing simply means transferring ownership of a product, in this case an image from a buyer to seller. You also need to be aware of any local gaps in the market in your local area. You should also try to be on top of your competitor’s prices, to undercut an existing photographer is one choice, but to neglect to value your skills and not charge enough to cover your overheads is another matter entirely. Remember this, its an important point.

Use your skills to the best advantage of the business and define what you want from it. Writing a business plan helps to keep you focused on the areas you specifically want to exploit. A business plan helps you to define your goals and strategies, it will be changed and updated, but it will help you, to keep things in perspective. You can then refer back to it when things become confusing or complicated. Everyone’s business plan will be different, as every objective will be different, but there are certain common factors that make up a good business plan which will help your business grow. It allows you to develop a professional attitude to your business, which not only helps you to increase your earnings, but also help you to finance your business.

For the photographer it should include, your business name, or your own, with full details of the proposed location of the business, a copy of your logo, as well as details of your copyright notices. What is the form of your proposed business (sole ownership, partnership, Limited Liability Company or Corporation). This should be followed by a table of contents, which focuses on a logical order. There are resources that will give you further details on such as profitable-photography.com

Included after this should be the type of business you intend to pursue, in a fair amount of detail, and it should contain the services you intend to offer. This section should include any future gaols or avenues you would like to explore, stating your clear objectives. This is so you can check at a later date whether your objectives are on course, or if you have got sidetracked.

If you envisage at any time you may need financial help, then you should include your personal business history.

You should also state a clear and concise marketing plan that should demonstrate how your business will differentiate from the businesses of your competitors. You should be able to establish whom your customers will be, as well as where your market will be, as in wholesale or retail or a combination of both. You should also be able to determine how long this type of market will be available to yourself.

The next section should clearly define your opposition, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. This should include the ways you may be able to exploit any gaps in the market in the specific area where you live. A section should follow this on how you intend to market and promote your individual services.

A financial segment should be included as to how you intend to manage the day-to-day bills of the business. How you intend to price your services, and what factors influence this pricing structure, which includes a section on your competitor’s financial structures. This means a fair amount of detective work as well as homework. Get your friends to ask from quotes from the local competition. Or try an even more direct approach, tell your competitor’s that you intend to start a new business, and that you do not want to undercut them, as this reduces the cake for everyone. They may well offer to help you construct a pricing structure that ensures everyone’s livelihood. It is in their interests to help. Not everyone will be cooperative, but it may mean you can get a truer picture of the market factors that govern your area.

Make a list of all the equipment you will need in your first year, as well as how and where you intend to purchase. Note any difficulties that may arise in obtaining your supplies. Note whether the prices of your supplies have a seasonal fluctuation, that may help you influence you when to buy. You should make a note of any local licenses that will be necessary, as well as any zoning restrictions, that may restrict the growth of your business. Your neighbours may not be thrilled at a procession of customer’s to your door, check whether they can restrict your services. Make a study of all your business insurance requirements.

The final segment should be devoted to how you intend to finance the growth of your business, as well as isolating what your financial needs will be. This should include a projection on your future earnings, as well as an accurate assessment of your outgoings’. This should be assessed on a monthly basis for the first year, and on an annual basis for the following three years. An important aspect of the financial statement is an assessment of the break-even point of your business, in other words the minimum you will have to take to pay your expenses.

The purpose of this documentation is to allow you to enunciate what the core elements of your business will be, in doing this it should help you to be able to quickly evaluate the success of your business objectives. If you are not clear on your objectives then you cannot possibly make a plan to bring about the success of those objectives.

Buying And Selling Products Is The Backbone Of A Home Based Business

By Mabel Van Niekerk

In many areas where unemployment has become a huge problem many people are starting their own home based business. This gives one a sense of security to know that you are in control and call the shots and you are not dependent on any on else for an income.

Once your business has proved itself you will be in the position to employ people to help you. You will have a share in combating unemployment. Many small businesses that were started at home have grown into big establishments and make a mark in the economy of that area.

Selling products that you make yourself or selling products that you buy from someone else can bring in a good income. If you are not the typical salesperson you will need to create a sales mentality and realize that you are doing this to make money. As long as you have a quality product you do not have to be embarrassed about inviting your family and friends around to come and see what you have on offer.

Many people are now using a website instead of a store to sell their products. A business selling products online has many more advantages than having a store. Your market is so much bigger as there is no limit to the amount of clients that you will be getting. People are logging in from all over the world and you are not confined to a store in a specific place. Most of the products sold are information and e books and CD’s so there is very little shipping of products to be done as the information is immediately electronically transferred to the buyer.

How to Make Money on the Internet Without Building a Website

By Samuel Thompson

There are various methods by which you can make money on the internet without building your own website. The following information provides an overview of three such methods.

For starters, you have the "free" websites which you see offered all over the World Wide Web (WWW). You see everywhere: grab your free website and start making money today! Of course, it is not as simple as all the hyped sales pieces would have you believe. But hey, it's free and you have nothing to lose. Or, do you?

Another method is to purchase a site for a small set-up charge, and perhaps a monthly fee. Set-up charges and fees vary widely depending on the type of product or service the site will promote. For example, there are merchandise sites that you can get for a yearly fee of under $100 and no monthly charge. These sites allow you to offer anywhere from a few items to several thousand items of merchandise, and to determine your own percentage as a profit.

A third method by which you can make money on the internet without building your own website involves the use of videos. The theory is to create many videos and simultaneously host them on dozens of sites. Naturally, you must offer a good product or service in order to convert traffic (viewer ship) into sales.

And, you must make certain that your videos are not soon outdated. The good news is that you can find ways, or utilize services, to automate major portions of the creating, editing, and uploading process.

After all is said and done, any method you use to make money on the internet without building a website involves understanding a basic process.

Finally, believe it or not, there is also another process by which you put into practice what you have come to understand. Although this may sound far-out or difficult, it really is quite simple.

Best wishes, for a better success, starting today.

Samuel Thompson is author of http://www.cruise-vacation-advisor.com/how-to-make-money.html/, a four-page mini-site on how to make money on the internet without building a website.
