Well believe it or not they often do and the Introduction of a book is often the authors published book review, which they make available to the world. Some might say that writing your own book review is shameless self promotion, others ask; What kind of an ego-centric idiot would write a book review of their own book?
Indeed this is a relevant comment, but let us consider what ego is for a moment. Ego is something that an individual develops through experience and achievement as they excel in some area or multiple areas of their life. Therefore this perception allows them to excel in other endeavors as well. There is nothing wrong with ego; that is a myth and falsehood perpetuated by under achievers and those who envy the top performers.
In fact, it gets really evident in sports between the top tier players and the also rans or fans who can barely make it off the couch. Calling someone an ego-centric jerk is an attitude that comes from severe lack of low self-esteem and is not to be honored at all. Labeling the winners ego-centric is problematic indeed? Lets name losers too then or those who cannot make the grade. What shall we call them? Worthless losers? Indeed it takes a little ego to compete at those levels if you want to actually win.
It takes a little bit of ego to write a book in the first place, perhaps the same level of ego it would take to write a book review of a book you actually wrote. So, it regardless of the labels authors should write book reviews of their works. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought.
